Spotlight On: Mia Felce

Welcome to a Spotlight On Mia Felce. Mia Felce is a small business selling colourful, abstract art for your home and all designed by Mia herself! I recently asked Mia a few questions about her business – one, because I’m nosey and two, because I love getting to know the background of a small business and I wanted to share it with you too!

The glamourous Mia!

Why did you want to start this business?

I graduated in 2013 with a degree in Textiles for Fashion and was lucky to get a job designing shoes after graduation. Even though it’s a creative job, I love painting and designing prints for products was something I loved doing through university, so a few years later I decided to design some art prints and phone cases. I’ve put my prints onto a variety of products over the years but I’m really happy with my current range and know that homeware is the direction for me.

I love the tea towel that I bought from Mia Felce. In fact no one is allowed to use it!

How did you decide on the name for the business?

I’m lucky to have quite a unique name so I decided to go with that!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from various places but mostly from nature and I always take lots of photos when I go on holiday. My most recent prints were inspired by a conservatory I visited in Chicago last year and one particular photo of a lovely carousel I discovered in a park whilst there.

Just one of the new designs that Mia Felce has recently released.

What difficulties have you had?

I still have a full time job so I struggle with not being able to spend as much time on my business as I’d like to. Things like launching new products and collections are quite a slow process as there’s so much involved, but my sister helps me out a lot. One day, I’d love to go full time, but at the moment I’m happy with how it’s going.

What do you enjoy most?

Designing is my favourite part, but I also love sharing my designs on Instagram and chatting to lovely people about interiors.

Mia also has a hashtag competition #miafelce and I won a print the other month so I chose this!

What advice would you give?

If you’d like to start your own business, I would say do a lot of research, but the best way is to just start and you’ll pick things up as you go. I would say you need a lot of patience as it’s a big learning curve.

What exciting plans do you have for 2020?

I have just launched a new collection of prints as well as a small range of greetings cards. I have further plans for some small gift items towards the end of the year too.

It has been great to learn more about the business Mia Felce and Mia herself. I always love to know where the inspiration comes from and I’m sure you will agree that Mia creates fantastic colourful designs. I know I love seeing them around our home.

Please head over to @miafelce and follow her and social media as more prints and homeware are released soon.
